Planning power and controls

Plan how the shades will receive power

Motor options may include rechargeable batteries or plug-in power, depending on the shade system. Think about access for recharging and the location of outlets before choosing a motor for a high window.

For a new build or renovation, discuss wiring while the room is still being planned. We confirm the selected system’s requirements and which installation work is included in the quote. A motor option for one shade does not mean every product can use it.

Choose controls around your daily routine

A remote may be all you need to adjust one window or a group of shades. App control, scheduling, and voice control depend on the motor and any required hub connecting the motor to your app or smart-home system. We confirm compatibility with your existing setup before ordering.

If you already have shades, send us the product information and photos before assuming they can be converted. The tube, headrail, size, mounting space, and motor system can determine whether a retrofit is possible.

Questions about motorized shades

Do motorized shades need an electrical outlet?

Some systems use batteries; others require plug-in or wired power. We check the available options for the product and opening, including how you will reach it for charging or maintenance.

Will the shades work with my smart-home system?

Tell us which smart-home system you use. We’ll check the shade motor and whether it needs a compatible hub for app or voice control. Some motorized shades use a remote without those connections.

Can several shades operate together?

Compatible systems can group shades. We review which windows you want to control together and which you want to adjust separately, then confirm the controller’s limits and setup.
